Why I Created PemSpa
Hi, I’m Pema Khando, founder and founding master esthetician of PemSpa. I have more than 15 years of experience in the spa industry and co-founded PemSpa with Boris Bark in 2021.
I created PemSpa because I wanted to build a different kind of facial spa in Newton Centre. After years of working in larger spa environments, I saw how easily client care could become secondary to speed, sales goals, back-to-back appointments, and standardized treatment protocols. I also saw how much the quality of care depended on training, intention, and whether the person providing the service truly cared about the client in front of them.
I wanted PemSpa to be built around a different standard.
To me, a facial is not just a treatment. It is a full experience. It is the way your skin is touched, how gently your face is held, the scent of the products, the care taken during extractions, the warmth of the bed, the peaceful music in the background, and the comfort of a private room where you can fully relax.
Most of all, I believe a facial should feel like someone is finally taking care of you.
Skincare With Intention
My goal is always to help you understand your skin, not just treat it for one appointment. During your facial, I want to explain what I’m seeing, why I’m choosing certain products or techniques, and what kind of plan may help your skin improve over time. Every client’s skin is different, so every facial at PemSpa is customized based on what your skin needs that day.
At the same time, I understand that not every appointment needs to be filled with conversation. Some clients want to talk through every step. Some simply want to rest. I respect both. My role is to meet you where you are that day, whether you need guidance, quiet, support, or space to fully relax.
If I had to describe what makes PemSpa different in one word, it would be intention. Every movement, touch, product, technique, and explanation should have a purpose. Nothing should feel random, rushed, or done just because it is part of a routine. That is what we mean when we say skincare with a plan.
That is why the PemSpa Method matters so much to me. Every esthetician at PemSpa is licensed in Massachusetts and trained directly by me, regardless of prior experience. We work together, train on each other, and continue refining our treatments so clients receive thoughtful, consistent care from our team.

How Our Philosophy Shows Up in Your Facial
We also schedule 30 minutes between every client. That time matters. It allows us to properly reset the room, prepare for the next appointment, review client needs, answer questions after the treatment, and offer guidance on how to maintain progress at home.
Skincare does not end when the facial ends. A professional facial can make a meaningful difference, but lasting results come from consistency: the right treatment plan, healthy daily habits, supportive home care, and regular maintenance. When clients come in consistently and follow a routine that supports their skin, everyone wins. The client feels happier and more confident, and our work has the chance to build into real, visible progress.
At PemSpa, we do not offer every spa service. We focus on the skincare treatments we know deeply and can stand behind. We do not rush appointments, pressure clients, or recommend treatments that are not right for their skin. If we would not use something on ourselves or someone we love, we will not use it on you.
My hope is that clients begin to see their facial appointments as real time for themselves, not something they squeeze in only when life slows down. Just 75 minutes every few weeks or every couple of months can make a meaningful difference in how you care for yourself and your skin.
Even after all my years in the spa industry, I still understand how powerful that feeling can be. Sometimes when I receive a facial, I fall asleep. Sometimes I feel emotional. To me, that says a lot about what a facial can become when someone feels safe, relaxed, and genuinely cared for.
My intention is always you first. I am here to listen, to guide, to advocate for your skin, and to create an experience where you feel supported from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
That feeling of care, consistency, and intention is what inspired PemSpa, and it continues to guide the experience we create for every client.
