Every esthetician on our team is licensed in Massachusetts and trained directly by Pema. We are appointment-only. We schedule 30 minutes between every client. We use only professional-grade skincare lines.
We do not rush appointments, pressure clients, or rely on one-size-fits-all treatment scripts. Our goal is the same for every client: clearer, healthier, more confident skin through consistent, intentional care.

At PemSpa, your facial is not built from a preset routine.
Your esthetician begins with a detailed skin analysis. They evaluate your skin's hydration, oil production, sensitivity, texture, congestion, pigmentation, and any active concerns. They ask about your concerns, recent treatments, sensitivity, lifestyle, and goals.
Once the analysis is complete, your esthetician selects the products, techniques, and tools that match what your skin needs today. This is not a fixed sequence. Treatments evolve in real time based on how your skin responds.
If your skin is more inflamed than expected, we adjust. If your hydration levels are different from last visit, we adapt. If you booked an advanced treatment but your skin is not ready for it, we will tell you and recommend a better-suited option.
The goal is not to do the most aggressive facial possible. The goal is to do the right facial for your skin.
PemSpa was co-founded by Pema Khando and Boris Bark in 2021. Pema has more than 15 years of experience in the spa industry and created PemSpa to feel different from the rushed, impersonal spa environments she had seen too often.
Her goal was to create a place where clients feel respected, cared for, and truly seen.
To Pema, a facial is not just a treatment. It is the way your skin is touched, how gently your face is held, the comfort of the room, the warmth of the bed, the scent of the products, the care taken during extractions, and the quiet confidence that someone is finally taking care of you.

Every esthetician at PemSpa is licensed in Massachusetts and trained directly by Pema through a structured, hands-on program that takes months to complete. No one works with clients independently until they have completed Pema's training, regardless of their prior experience. This is how we keep quality consistent. You will never be treated by a rotating cast of unfamiliar faces.
PemSpa is appointment-only by design. We are not trying to create the busiest, loudest, fastest spa environment. We are trying to create a calm, private, well-prepared space where your esthetician can focus on you.
We schedule 30 minutes between every appointment for sanitation, room reset, and unhurried preparation. The buffer ensures your treatment never feels rushed, your esthetician has time to prepare specifically for your skin, and the room is fully reset before you arrive. Most spas turn rooms over much faster. We do not.
Every facial begins with a 5 to 10 minute skin analysis. Your facial is guided by your skin's condition, your goals, and your comfort level, not by what's on the menu.
Your esthetician will explain what they are seeing in your skin, what they are using, and why. They will recommend a home care routine and next-visit schedule based on what your skin actually needs. We do not pressure clients to buy products, book series, or commit to memberships. If we recommend something, it is because your skin will benefit from it.
Every treatment room at PemSpa is private and quiet. We do not share rooms or rotate clients through partial sessions. During your appointment, no one enters except your esthetician. We do not film treatments or give tours during client appointments.
Some clients want to learn during their facial. They want their esthetician to explain every product, ingredient, and step. Other clients want to rest. Quiet, low light, soft music, minimal conversation. We respect both. Tell your esthetician at the start of the appointment which kind of session you want, or change your mind partway through. There is no right answer.
Most facials at PemSpa include 5 to 15 minutes of targeted neck, shoulder, and arm massage performed with the training and intention of a licensed massage therapist. This is not a marketing touch. It is a deliberate part of the treatment designed to support your nervous system and help you reset from the inside out.
We do not choose products because they are trendy. We choose products because they are professional, safe, effective, and appropriate for the skin concerns we treat.
PemSpa uses professional skincare lines including Circadia and Face Reality. Both are available only through licensed estheticians. We chose them for clinical results, ingredient quality, and safety, not brand recognition.
Circadia is a professional skincare line developed by chemist and esthetician Dr. Peter Pugliese. We use Circadia for clients dealing with aging concerns, hyperpigmentation, oxidative stress, and clients seeking transformative skin results over time.
Face Reality is a clinical acne treatment system that requires esthetician certification to use. We use Face Reality for clients with active acne, hormonal breakouts, cystic acne, post-acne marks, and clients building a structured long-term acne treatment plan.
Our product standard is simple: if we would not use it on ourselves or our families, we will not use it on you. That applies to every cleanser, exfoliant, serum, mask, peel, and finishing product used in the treatment room.
Many clients come to PemSpa because they want expert skincare in a more private, boutique setting.
Our space is appointment-only, calm, and intentionally paced. We do not accept walk-ins. We do not allow unscheduled tours or outside filming during client care. Our clients' privacy matters.
Some clients want a quiet reset. Some need a high level of discretion. Some are coming in during a vulnerable skin moment, when they're dealing with active breakouts, post-procedure recovery, or sensitivity. All of that is respected here.
Many PemSpa clients value privacy, and we take that seriously. We do not publicize client visits, share treatment details, or use names or images without explicit permission.

Before every first appointment, clients complete a detailed intake form that asks about allergies, prescriptions, medications, skin conditions, recent procedures, and past product reactions. Your esthetician reviews this information before your facial and adjusts the products, techniques, and treatment steps used during your appointment.
